Consider Supporting Rhizome for the Holidays!

Rhizome is a fabulous online curatorial website specifically focusing on all types of new media, including internet-based and video animation. Rhizome is an independent project of the equally fabulous New Museum of Contemporary Art, in New York, and will be participating in the multi-event launch of “Unmonumental,” the inaugural exhibit at the SANAA-designed space, with an online component in February.

Consider contributing to their annual campaign! They have only US$8000 to go, which if you went to Basel Miami, you well know the amount doesn’t get you very far!

Dear friend,

Thank you so much for your involvement in Rhizome—and your consideration of our Community Campaign.

Fundraising for the arts, and particularly new media, often seems like an insurmountable task. New media is still a marginal and emerging form. This is what gives it its radical potential, its community, its dynamism and uncategorizable nature—and also what makes it a challenge for all those who endeavor to make or support it. Even though Rhizome is housed within the larger institution of the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, we are still an independent, non-profit organization and reliant on the community we serve for stability. Our $30,000 Campaign goal is not an arbitrary figure but the amount we need to raise in order to produce our online programs in 2008 and develop them in the directions our community has asked for and needs. Greater online participation, expanded editorial coverage, larger commission grants–we can only fulfill these important requests with your support.

We have two weeks left in our Campaign and $8000 of our goal left to raise. On behalf of everyone at Rhizome, I ask that you support us by making a contribution now.

On the strength of our members, Rhizome has remained one of the most vital connecting points for the discovery, interpretation, and activation of new media art over our first eleven years. Please help us continue arguing for the critical importance of this field in 2008 by becoming a member or making a donation now.

With many thanks,

Lauren Cornell
